John Smit

Sleep researcher and blogger

John Smit has spent ten years working in sleep research at large companies, and he holds a degree in a field related to sleep science. That decade of work is the lens he brings to SleepGuru: he knows how sleep studies are run, how small samples and averages can mislead, and how easily a careful finding turns into a confident headline.

Alongside his research career, John writes about sleep as a blogger. His aim is simple: take what the research actually shows about sleep timing, naps, caffeine, light and shift work, and turn it into advice you can use tonight, without promising more than the evidence can deliver.

What he does on SleepGuru

John reviews every guide and calculator on the site. He reads the whole page, checks that each claim matches the research it cites, that a calculator states its method and its limits plainly, and that health advice points you to a doctor when it should. Pages he has signed off show "Reviewed by John Smit" and the date. You can read more about the process in our editorial policy.
